"Red squirrel on tree "

Shaftesbury, Dorsetl

"Owned by the National Trust, Formby Point is an excellent
stretch of duneland coast to the north of Liverpool. Part of
the protected area is a red squirrel reserve. The red
squirrel has disappeared from most parts of England and
this is the outstanding location for watching and
photographing these cute creatures. I have spent many,
many hours trying to photograph the squirrels here and
it is not as easy as you may imagine. Firstly you really
need to pick a time when there are not many people
around, but you will also face the problem that living
within a pine wood there is often very low light levels
down on the ground. It was a great moment when I
was finally able to photograph a squirrel hanging onto
the side of the tree in a small patch of sunshine".
